I visited Deer Park Monastery in 2015, primarily out of curiosity rather than a pursuit of spiritual growth. My brother persuaded me to attend the retreat by covering all the flight tickets and costs. He had met Thầy two years earlier during a U.S. tour and often shared the wonderful experiences he had during the retreat. After three days of practice, I felt a significant change within me, as if I had been thirsting for something I didn’t recognize, and then suddenly, I experienced refreshing clarity.
Since then, we have flown together every year from Houston to California for the five-day retreat. However, once a year is not enough! I am grateful that we have a Sangha in town to practice together, and now with the emergence of Planting Seeds MPC, I see young children being cared for and loved by the monastics and all the brothers and sisters.
As I grow older and deepen my understanding of mindfulness practice, I feel happy for them to have the opportunity to engage with these teachings at an early age. I am committed to doing what I can to support the Sangha for the benefit of future generations.
