I first encountered the practice of mindfulness about 15 years ago during a Day of Mindfulness at Deer Park Monastery. This experience introduced me a new journey into Buddhism in a way that was practical and deeply transformative. Practicing mindfulness allows me to apply Buddhist teachings in my daily life, fostering greater understanding and love for myself and others. Over time, mindfulness became a powerful tool to navigate life’s challenges, including conflicts with others, academic stress, and the pressures of my dental career.

The practice of mindfulness was especially instrumental as I worked through the stress of getting into and completing dental school, helping me remain effective, peaceful, and focused throughout the process. Now, working as a dentist, mindfulness continues to support me in reducing stress and enhancing compassion, both for myself and my patients.

The practice of mindfulness, along with the teachings of Plum Village, holds a special place in my heart. The most important lesson for me is to approach all interactions with mindfulness, love, and understanding. This is a practice I am deeply grateful for, and I hope to share its benefits with younger generations. By teaching mindfulness to children, we can help them overcome life’s challenges from an early age, guiding them toward their best, happiest potential.

Huong’s favorite quote from Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh

“Because of Your Smile, You Make Life More Beautiful”

With more mindful, happy children, we can collectively contribute to a more beautiful and compassionate world.
